I am not going to start a topic about using a buffer in the M1A. In my opinion, aftermarked buffers are a solution to a problem that not exist.
I am more a believer of replacing the operating rod spring but after how many rounds that spring has to be changed ?
I know it depends if one shoots full or moderate power loads in his rifle.
As for myself I shoot reloads with 40gr. of IMR4895 or 39.5 gr of N 135 behind a 153gr.Winchester FMJ wich I consider as mild reloads.

Go to the forum section on Gun Professionals;;; you will see a member Gus Fisher ;; The very first post in his group is on the Operating Rod spring ;;; read it than read it again;;; write down how long the spring is to be :::; than measure yours.
Gus also mentioned 2K rnds it should be replaced even if over the minimum length.

I have put >18K rounds down range in the last twenty years in my NM M1A, I have only once changed the operating rod spring when it measured near or less than 15". I have changed the barrels but only once needed to change the op rod spring.

Those buffers appear to be more crap to disintegrate and cause issues. Not worth it!
