a friend if mine who was in the vietnam era USMC (reliable guy/story- I know hard to belive for a marine!!) told me he had problems qualifying- he is very short in stature and he was sent to a remedial small arms class where they had him fire a rifle(m14) with a short stock that was painted red. He did fine with the shorter length, but then had to return to unit where all rifles were same length-
any one else hear of this? were there special short stocks produced or modified for this or other purposes?

Individual units will improvise any means necessary to accomplish their mission. No I have never heard of it, but it would make a lot of sense if it helps somebody quality who could not otherwise do so. Hopefully once the technique is learned, the trainee would be able to adapt to the standard stock.
