I'm going to start building a M1a for 600 yard prone shooting, in the books I have seen nobody seems to talk about truing the receiver face or is this not done. I build palma rifles and alum stocks for prone LR shooting and you always check and true all mating surfaces.
BTW this is my first gas gun build.

Check it. This is one spec almost all manufacturer's get right.

If you don't have Jerry Kuhnhausen- The US 30 caliber gas operated Service Rifle. I suggest you might want it. It shows how to check the important specs including what you just mentioned.
