I had been lurking here (plus or minus a few post for while) since 2009. 🤩. My loaded M1a who I nicknamed “ Wooden Betty” was purchased in ‘09 post divorce before my ex crippled my wallet by a bunch😝. This rifle is the one if someone where to ask me” If you can only have 1 rifle “.
I have developed a few load for her and on quest to developing a couple more. Compared to a gas gun or to bolt action Rem-700, she is pickier on loads. Surprisingly she shoots flat base 150’s where 2-3 bullets will be touching and a flier if you dont let the barrel cool off.
For 147 Grain loads Military Ball pills she is a consistent 2-3 MOA.For 168 AMAX or SMK she will do sub MOA. There had been many here that ask too much of what this rifle can do, unfairly at times comparing her not to another operating rod, lots of moving parts type of firearm- my suggestion- Dont.
She is, and always will be great battle rifle and with her limitations a great Military Competition rifle!
I shoot her with an old Springfield 6X on top of SAI mount but I always go back to shooting her with Irons as to be true to her inception.
So my advice to new comers and old alike lets appreciate her for what she is.
BTW many thanks to Art , Gus, Ted, Tonyben and a few others I cant think of right now for your Knowledge about this awesome rifle.
