Range report

Wanted to post some scanned pictures, but couldn't figure it out.

Carried my SA m1a and my LRB. Also a couple of .22 rifles, Colt Government, S&W Model 18 22.

Shot a few groups from the bench and went to clay pigeons at the 100yd. bank. Shot only one group at paper with the SA m1a. Was happy to see 5 shots @ 100 yards in .9 inch. That rifle shoots better all the time. Quite often I will get a group with it around a inch.

My LRB did fair. Had problems with first shot opening group up between 2 and 3 inches. In the 3 groups I fired, had 4 shots in !.4, !.5, and 1.9 inches. If it wasn't for the first shot of my 5 shot groups opening the group size up, I would have felt better. Had not been doing that. But also had that problem with the SA which soon disappeared. Need to replace the stock in the LRB. The one I got it in is my old SA fiberglass. My SA didn't shoot great in it. I still feel with a little work and range time it will shoot as well as my SA M1A.

I could shoot clay pigeons standing offhand with those 2 rifles all day long. That's enjoyable to me. It also causes other shooters to take notice that irons can shoot that well. Also caused quite a bit of havoc to the clay pigeons @ 100 yds. with my Government Model.

I'm planning on ordering a couple of stocks for the LRB. I've got my heart set on a nice USGI walnut, but can't decide between a USGI birch or fiberglass for the second stock. Anyone care to give me their 2 cents worth about which to chose and why?

Well there Buffalo Bill, ever thought of shooting pistol competition???
Check out Freds

Fredsm14stocks.com has a nice discussion on the different types of stocks.
This may help you decide.
JonnyRebs website (access through the links forum) also has some nice looking stocks, although most are sold at the moment.
Sounds like a good day at the range Joe. I don't know how many rounds it would take me to hit a clay pigeon @ 100 yards. But I cleared all the half size pigs @ 100 yards. on the silhouette range with my 45acp. I thought I missed twice, but there were hits on the target. It just didn't have enough oomph to knock 'em down every time. Also, I have noticed some fiberglass stocks fit a little snugger than others. I would pick up a G.I. wood and glass stock while they are still plentiful and affordable.
Jack,

I was getting about 2 hits per magazine with the 45 on the pigeons, just getting close and throwing dirt on them was fun. It was easy to see what a bad sight picture or trigger pull would do. Shooting at a pigeon or any reactive target is lot more fun to me than shooting paper.

M14 LOVER, I thought Buffalo Bill used shot cartrides, that was cheating.

Thanks for the stock tips. I need to get one that has a good fit for the LRB. I know there's an issue with the current stock.
