Hey guys here is a target I shot on Tuesday, not bad considering it was cold(40) and a little wind. It was out of a cold barrel with Port. dated 79,,not bad for 25 yr old ammo,I was out om my FA Comp Grade with A.R.M.S. mount and rings with a Leupold VXIII 3.5x10x50mm.More later,M1A_Scoutguy

Nice shooting. Is it just me, or does most surplus ball ammo have more verticle dispersion that horizontal, with about one in five rounds further out than the rest? I get the same oval (roughly) patterns from both Port and Aussie. Is this caused by variations in the powder load and bullet weights, or is it more of a breath control issue.

Thanx for fixing my Pic dighawaii,,I was in a big hurry cuz I was on my way to work but I wanted to try and get it up,I guess I got half of it right,LOL! Anyways I was pretty happy with the group,I still haven't shot any Match Ammo through it yet hard to spend $20 bucks when surplus does this.I think I'm going to move it over a click to the right, and maybe one click down and see what I get, thats whats nice about Leuoplds they move were ya put them, thats why I pay the $$ for them. :D The weather is on the up swing up here in central NY,so there will be lots more shooting in the days to come. I will keep you guys posted on my sucsess and failures. M1A_Scoutguy,,Defending Freedom 7.62mm at a time!

Wow. That's one heck of a Cold Barrel Zero. Always nice when the first one out the spout hits like that. :D

I'm with ya on the surplus vs. Match rounds, although Hoplite is offering up cases of Gold Medal 168-grain for @ $350 or so if I'm not mistaken.

Not bargain-basement, but a heckuvalot cheaper than $20/box. They routinely have ads in Shotgun News.

In your case, though, it probably would just be gilding the rose...

How much time between rounds? Did your groups start to open up after that?

Nice group, I think you might want to corner the market on 79 Port.
Looks like you've got yourself a keeper. 8)

Hey spikeinfiritz, whats up,I guess I took a normal amount of time,,got set, took a deep breath, let it about half out and squeeeeeezed! Recovered and did it again,so no more than a few Min. at best! I do have the Heavy Kreiger BBL. so it takes a bit to get it hot anyways. I gave it a good test last week,I loaded a 20rd Mag and did the same thing, shot got ready shot again,by the time I got to about 12 to 15 rds the heat waves through the scope looked like I was in the Middle of the desert, pretty wild, but the darn thing put them all in or VERY close to the 10x with a few called flyers but remarkable just the same! By the time I picked up all the brass, you could touch the barrel no problem, 8) .And yes the port is very good, but I will break down and buy some Match one of these days,I bought some Match Ammo from The Ammunitionstore and shot it through my Scout Rifle awhile back and that shoots very good,Its Maine Cartridge Company, they use LC Brass and Hornady 168 Match Bullet nice stuff, and its only $10 a box,I just haven't bought any in a while.Take care,,M1A_Scoutguy :)

waiting!!

Hey Ramrod,,I know the feeling,It seemed like it took forever, but I think it was about 3 months, maybe just a bit longer! :( It was the longest wait of my life,LOL,or so it seemed! I got the comp grade,if you ordered the peerless you better sit down cuz they take about a year I am told, the ONLY difference is the glass bedding,I think everyting eles is the same. Well let us know when you get it and how you make out with it,I'm sure you will be more than happy with it,I know I am,Clint and everyone at FA. is just GREAT :) Hey Ramrod I agree with you, I had a freind that had some Aussie and I just tried 3 ,I was pretty casual with it but I had 2 touching and the 3rd one out just a bit,so I think it is pretty good stuff.I will be getting some in the near future, take care everyone, and keep it pointed down range.
