Can someone with quick load run a quicky for me? Socom M1A, LC case, 34 primer. 2.8 oal, 41.2gr imr3031 under a 168gr sierra hpbt.

This load shoots terrific in my new 308AR (better than FGMM), adjustable gas block. 16" barrel. Comes up only 30fps shy of FGMM in the same gun. I have 42gr of 3031 listed as max in 2 different places, Lyman and IMR.

Whats the possibility of this being ok to run in the SOCOM?

I don't have Quickload... but if memory serves me right 39ish grains is better suited to the M1A gas system.

Do a Google search for IMR 3031 loads specific to the SOCOM... I know there have been quite a few threads here.

39.3 grains is my best load with 3031. LC case, 168gBTHP.
Personally,...I would not shoot anything over 41 grains in an M1A. That of course is not knowing how fast the MV is at that 41 grains...but the pet load I see the most is 39.5 grains of 3031.

My "canned" load for 3031 is 39.5 grains with either a 168 or 175 in mil brass but when I did an actual workup I got to 41 with 168s and 40.3 with 175s so you aren't far off from me. The only thing I would worry about is temp sensitivity, if it gets really hot during summertime you might pop primers. That has happened to me when using ball powder and I also had problems with IMR4895. Varget, H4895 not so much.

I was thinking I was in the clear with this load, as a previous load taking up much more case capacity with a 165 gmx showed pressure was surely high with the primers edges beginning to flatten out, that was with 39.5g of 3031.

With this load of 41.2, the primers, other than having a firing pin dent, look like they were just pressed in. Brand new looking.

The velocity with the 39.5 load of sierra 168s was only an avg of 2350. Fgmm averaged 2466. With the 41.2 Im at an avg of 2437.

The famed Marine team load for 200/300 was 39.0 of 3031 w/ a 168SMK. (Loaded by Federal) Later became GMM.

I’ve yet to see a reloading manual document load data using lake city or “mil surp” cases, every one I’ve seen has been using a commercial case. I can’t speak to quick load, but I wasn’t able to get really good performance from 39.5 x 168 grain projectiles (plural) from my SOC16. 175’s have done really well. I began working up and got to 40.2 grains of 3031 and got a 168 load the rifle and I liked.

So 3031 is a faster powder than say 4895 or 4064? I was told by everyone that 40.0 gr. of 4895 was too little powder.

Newbie reloader here. DI5
Yes, IMR-3031 is the quickest powder that's usable in our rifles. For newb's like you IMR-4064 is the slowest with IMR/H-4895 is about in the middle.

I was busting Doc's chops because he fat fingered his load data, Yes 40.0grs of IMR/H-4895 under a 168 is a light load. Stick with 41.5grs of the 4895's under a 168 and your good too go.

Ahhhhh. 30.5 ?
OK Phil --- I can't type... and getting older doesn't help (but I will take the getting older to the other alternative)
I edited my post ---- it is 39.5 grains 3031 in LC cases with Fed 210M primers and 168 Sierra BTHP. One of my now deceased mentors and former Guard team armorer, recommended that as our go to load....
