After receiving this piece, I've made a few observations. I almost returned it to Classic but I deemed the problems minor enough that I would take care of them myself. I have quite a bit of experience as a schooled armorer for my previous department and I've been issued and maintained a few M14s over the years.
Glad I kept it because she is a straight up shooter!
My first observation was overall looks. Beautiful job by JRA.
The only minor issues I found were:
1. The handguard was too loose. Upon inspection, I saw it has the Bula NM barrel which I ordered (Bula bolt and op rod as well). However, I believe the handguard clip retaining cuts are slightly off. I compared it with an original SAK NM barrel in my collection. No problem, I tweeked the clip to fit better. I could recut the barrel but figured that was unnecessary.
2. Rear sight was loose also. Not a problem. Tightened it up and it checks out.
3. Oh, forgot to mention a little dust from the refinish on the stock. Nice cartouches were saved.
Now, the first mag shot today. '76 Port surplus. Rear sight centered, 12 clicks up. 100 & 200 meters. 6 o'clock hold. 10 rds each distance. 10 inch steel plates. 20 for 20 on hits, no sight adjustment. I'm pleased with Priscilla, we're going to get along just fine.
