When cases get tired they can be recycled for a new life. This is what I do with 30.06 cases to give them a new life in saving barrels from unnecessary damage from cleaning rod.

Many semi autos and lever guns are cleaned from the muzzle. Its a five step process for 30 cal.

1. Clean your brass and neck size only without the expander in your full length die. I first size in 30.06 FL die.

2. Next remove expander from 308 Win die and roll shoulder back a little bit at a time relubing before every move.

3.Next remove the expander and run in 7/08 die. Do this in about three stages and re-lubing the neck shoulder and roll the shoulder back.

4. Remove expander from a 260 die and reduced neck down making it smaller.

5. Chuck case in lathe and drill out as indicated. Try your cleaning rod. It is doesn't want to slide on rod run case in 260 die with expander in place.

When you get through you can scrub your barrel to make it cleaner without fear of damaging crown and ruining your accuracy. Also works on 35 cal 44 cal barrels to protect the crown.

I made up about a hundred of them from some commercial 30.06 cases and friends passed them out at a Garand Clinic at River Bend Gun Club about four years back.

I forgot to add I keep one on most of my cleaning rods so don't get lost.

Projects like this and forming wildcat cases is the justification for getting all the dies I can. I have about 55 different calibers so I can do such as I recognized years ago I only needed calibers I could make from 5.56, 7.62 or 30.06 cases and except for a couple rifles that is my basic plans.

I have designed cartridges to be made from 303 Brit which improves the 303 or modifies the case for 6.5 and 7MM as well as 30 cal. I also have make cases for 6.5 Daudeteau from 7.62X54R cases as well.

Even case trim dies can be utilized in making other calibers.

I'm sure a lot of youngsters on the forum don't realize how lucky they are to be able to buy any conceivable caliber with the click of a mouse. I can remember buying a German Mauser and making 8mm cases out of 30-06. Keep those dies never know when you might Ned them.
