4th, I'm unfamiliar with how police chiefs are selected/chosen in Detroit so I'm unable to answer your question.Do you think it's because he doesn't have to answer to a Mayor that he can speak up this way?
Here in Southern Cal most of the COP's(Chief's of Police) are against the citizens/victs having guns for self defense. They believe that as long as there are victs then it's a job security situation and their jobs are safe, thus increasing the dept. with new ofcrs and equipment/training. I as a LEO have never agreed with this mindset and have always advised and counseled citizens and vict's of crimes to armed themselves. It's the same as when firemen gives advise on fire prevention and or combating a fire. The old Biblical saying, "give a man a fish and he'll eat all day, teach him how to fish and he'll eat for the rest of his life".Any police chief not pro-gun needs to find a new line of work.
