Loads of photos of airplanes from WWI to present day, never saw some of these photos before. Would really like to get down there to visit the museum someday!

If you get a chance to go, take it. We went a few years back. Awesome place. We went to Orange Beach on vacation and took a trip over to the museum one day.
They have an interesting lighthouse on the NAS too.

eglin afb is just south of it and mobile bay has the battleship alabama and airplanes and stuff at their museum. fort rucker in dothan alabama has a helicopter museum.

I was raised in Pensacola. Still have a brother and a sister that live there. If you get a chance to go to the Naval aviation Museum there is a civil war brick fort about 800 feet down the road. Ft. Barrancas. Across the bay is Ft. Pickens another civil war brick fort. It`s not to far west to Ft. Morgan and Ft. Gaines

When you see drip pans under airplanes you know they're the real deal! Love the authentic carrier deck those planes sit on! That is one 1st class museum. A side note- there is one U.S. Army airplane there, a little green (Stinson?) spotter. It was flown out to & landed on a carrier deck with a South Vietnamese Col & family, at a time when they were pushing choppers overboard to make room on deck the skipper had that plane stowed below decks & saved it!USNA

The Flying Tigers were in the Chinese National Air Force. The A.V.G.'s resigned their U.S. military commissions to fly in China. Their planes carried the Chinese insignia. Later in the war, they transferred back into the U.S. military and became part of the 14th Air Force under Gen. Chenault. Interesting note. Despite the legend of fighting the Japanese before the the U.S. entry into the war, their first combat was on Dec.20,'41. Thirteen days after the Pearl Harbor attack. They disbanded on July 4,'42 and became the 23rd Fighter Group. -Lloyd BEERCHUG1

Actually, Fort Rucker is butted up against the teeming metropolis of Daleville, Alabama, and flanked by Ozark, and Enterprise. Dothan is about 25 miles east by southeast of Mother Rucker.

I spent about 2 years there, while "permanently" stationed there for about 5 years....

As I recall, most of the time stationed there was actually spent in the woods about 50 miles south of Ft Benning, in the hinterlands of western Ft Bragg, Ft Eustis, Korea, with the occasional day trip to a crappy little airport just north of Panama City.

I knew I wasn't crazy! That blue sun/star is an insignia for the Chinese Air Force. That's pretty cool considering that plan is still marked with those insignias.
