The gas cylinder has a ledge on the back end, it is flat on top, this protrudes into the FB ferrule, metal cap on the end... What we want is to make certain that this ledge does not touch the ferrule or any thing else..
When you trial fit the GC with the FHG on, check to see if there is clearance on both sidesof the ledge, you may have to rotate the FHG, which has the tenon reduced to allow rotation to get the ledge centered on the ferrule.. NO tension to center.
If the fit is too close, less than .020" on both sides, the sides of the ledges can be filed at an angle to clear. if things are still too close, file the metal and wood inside the ferrule even more. The ledge MUST not contact the ferrule or wood...
At the same time you are doing this, check to see how much clearance there is from the end of the cyl. to the front of the FHG ferrule.. This is a "BIGGIE," there should be at least .025" clearance. Close but not touching will not to it.. If more clearance is needed the tenon on the front of the HG has to be set back. It is this setting back, by filing off wood, where things get sticky. Of course the ferrule has been removed to re=work the tenon, when satisfied remember what was said about not getting too much epoxy into the ferrule or on the end of the tenon..Too much and you will have to repeat the mod. over..
It would be nice to know by post how many are folowing all this.. Art
