I am not a patch guy but it may be one of the helicopter units. I think they were the falcons but not sure. Your best bet is to get a picture up on one of the message boards dedicated to insignia. It is out of my knowledge area, sorry.
OT - ID this patch
I got an old shirt from a buddy of mine that I lost contact with. He used to be a gunship pilot in RVN. The shirt has a patch of and eagle with upswept wings (kinda like when they've just swooped in on some prey and are grabbing it in their claws) in front of a sword pointing upwards. Is this from the 173d Airborne? His call sign was "Tiger Surprise."

Chuck, thanks for the link. That is indeed the patch I'm talking about, but of course this one is subdued black on green.
