I have a late 1980's springfield bush rifle and the hole in the end of the op rod is much larger in diameter than a usgi m14. Is that because of the short barrel? Other than that they seem identical. Thanks
The hole in the end of the OpRod is simply to allow water to drain out. The actual size doesn't make a difference, except that water drains faster thru a larger hole. RNGR2
The hole at the forward end of the operating rod is a vent hole. The hole in the bottom of the stock forward of the sling swivel is a drain hole.
The factory operating rod on my 1984 vintage select fire SAI M1A has an enlarged vent hole as well. It's a commercial manufacture operating rod. It has not affected function of my rifle in semi-automatic or automatic fire.
