SA M1A Standard Model....what should the gap be between the front of the operating rod and the stock cutout? Mine is 9/16", seems excessive, is this normal/acceptable?

Thanks in advance guys/gals, great forum here!

Well, the true front of the op rod needs to meet the tail of the gas piston, so there's no gap there. If you're talking about where the stock and the handguard are semi-radiused to make a space for the op rod when it's fully forward, 1/16" is enough to assure the op rod won't be whacking something when the bolt goes into battery.

Maybe you could post a photo.
