Thinking;

It will definitely get you to thinking and searching. It speeds over the time period but doesn't leave the story short. I liked it.

I've finished 2/3 of it in 2 days. Fascinating book. First 20 pages are a little slow getting started, but it speeds up and has been a fantastic read since.

Can't wait to see how it ends.

I'm currently on day 2, already has me thinking. It's also been very educational, I never knew about The Compton Effect.

Yes, someone mentioned it (perhaps here) a year or so ago and I read it. I think that all in all it's a pretty realistic account of what could happen after such an event. I was impressed that most of the characters were pretty ordinary people that were suddenly having to deal with a extraordinary situation. It didn't go super heavy into all the tactical stuff, over done gun specifics, constant battles, etc. like some of the other shtf books (Rawles stuff in particular) have.

I think these attributes make it much more palatable to the "general population" and it could act as a great into to the survival mentality. I just sent my brother a copy for his birth day and so far he seems to be getting it. I would really like for my wife to read it, as I think she could relate to the story and it would be a big help to get her more on board with things. Enjoy it and find someone to pass it onto when you're done.

Great Book

I really enjoyed the book. In fact I couldn't put it down.

I've given away and recommended that book to several people. I think it's great way to motivate people into prepping.

A couple other good ones are Lucifer's Hammer and Patriots.

I read it a few weeks ago, very good book. I really liked how it wasn't extravagant or stylized too much. It really felt like average people trying to get by, rather than it being extreme preppers that were already prepared for such an event, like in Patriots. If you watch the NatGeo Electronic Armageddon link I posted a few days ago, it has a part where they are in Black Mountain, NC doing a reenactment of some sort. Anyway, I liked it, but kind of wished I knew what happened next!

Seconding Lucifer's Hammer. A little dated, but a great read.

Finished it about a month ago. Good read. Makes me want another Volkswagen beetle.

My daughter used to live in Black Mountain and I've been to Montreat college.
I could really relate to the story.

Awesome read. Very realistic.

I think it was very informative, . . . and, . . . can be applied to so many different scenarios.

Also makes one want to make sure he/she has some "marketable" skills.

started it a few days ago, about 1/3 through it. Great book. Patriot is great also, finished it a couple months ago. Gotta look into getting Lucifer's Hammer.

Yeah, a very good TEOTWAWKI book. Lucifer's Hammer was a great book, too and showed the not only humans can 'end the world'. Footfall is another book by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle that deals with a similar situation from an alien (spacealiens) invasion scenario.

Patriots was good, too. Ah the thin veneer of civilzation......................

It is a very entertaining and addictive book, I couldn't put it down when I started reading it. It is very realistic and scary. It really made me realize how fragile our modern lifestyle can be and it pointed out our almost total dependence upon the electrical grid and trucking both of which could be taken out by a number of events both natural and man made.

I read it a couple of years back and thoroughly enjoyed it. I found it hard to put it down until I finished it. The book is really that good.

As I keep reading I'm struck with the realization of just how plausible all of the scenarios are. This isn't aliens and space invaders type stuff, this is realistic and shows just how fragile everything in our society is. How quickly things go from status-quo to chaos.

The author does a really great job of painting a picture.

I read it last year, I think because Glenn Beck recommended it when he was still on Fox News. It really brings home what an EMP attack could do.

I read it when it first came out. I really liked it and couldn't put it down either. I read the the story about a year ago, and I must say it was a great read. It really open'd my eyes to everything. I enjoyed how it wasn't dramatized and felt so plausible.

I started this book today..Damn good so far.
