Finally, after a lengthy wait, I've gotten the first M1A that I've owned in a quarter century.

Karl Maunz is essentially the father of the commercial M1A in that he built the original jig for making receivers. There's plenty of established literature about his role, so I'll not restate it here.

This rifle is pretty sweet. I spent the evening taking it down and examining the pieces pretty closely, and I believe that after a bit of lightweight work it will be Match Ready.

TRW bolt: 7790186 TRW ZB
TRW barrel: 7790190 9 63
SA Op Rod
SA Trigger Group
Spring Guide with old-style rod modification
NM rear sights
Standard front sights
USGI flash suppressor
USGI oversized NM Birch stock and Boyd's (?) walnut handguard - both nicely ebonized with great oil finish

I'll be shooting around Quantico this coming spring. Winter is the time for position work and dry firing...

I'll put up some better pictures when I take them (need daylight GI6)

Wow sounds nice and a quater of a century has been to long a wait. Congrats! I have to ask where did you find that rifle with the receiver?

Judging from the parts list in your rifle I betting that it was worth the wait. Sounds like a nice battle rifle.
