I have read the overarching be it all pdf on the forum regarding scope bases, as well as hundereds of threads ... that being said I was looking for thoughts from the way more experianced poeple of the forum out there about this item I saw on Numrich. Rifle in question is a MA9222 (loaded walnut w/carbon).

DONT COMMENT ON PRICE, I have come to terms with the fact that I am going to probably go with a A.R.M.S. 18 or Sadlack. Though the fact that it is a 4-point, with a valley in the center to use the iron sights did catch my attention.

I personal would not waste money or time on that mount. I have found it is best to stay with proven mounts when it comes to M1A/M14 type rifles. As for aluminum mounts. I have not had a good aluminum mount that did not shoot loose . Though I am speaking about Springfield inc. mounts. But you can buy it and report back

while there are some things you can buy from numrich, IMO this is not one of them. buy known quality, and you will be money ahead in the long run.

Try using a Ewing's scope mount. Simple design, adjustable for height, fore and aft placement of scope, and made of tool steel. It's a single point mount but I haven't seen one shoot loose. IMHO it doesn't get any better than this. It was designed and made by a world class M14 shooter and master gunsmith. and BTW it cost less than most mounts out there. The one pictured is his first design, he has another one available. DI5

FWIW, I have used the S&K mount from way back and it was aluminum. It did not shoot loose. I still use B-Square mounts and they don't shoot loose either IFF they are adjusted correctly.

I have a TSA brand mount that is built like a tank. Solid one piece steel and it went on my new Springfield M1a with no problems. I had read some horror stories on here about getting some others to fit. Now if I could just get a bipod on there I would be set! LOL Oh yeah the TSA was bought new from a guy on Gunbroker for $65! I sent my SEI mount back and recieved a refund and bought lot's of ammo.

I agree about the aluminum being a poor choice of matieral. I have a sadlak airbourne and love it. The finnish is exellent and customer service is second to none. Pricey, but you get what you pay for.

Yeah, it won't win any beauty contests but it works, can't ask for anything more. I like the fact that you can put the scope low enough in order to negate the need for a cheek piece. In fact you have to remove the rear sight if you decide to mount the scope as low as it can go. Aluminum flexes under recoil which is why they make the mounts as thick as they do, to try and minimize the amount of flex and the vertical spline will eventually get battered over time. I carried an XM-21 for 18 months in the army using both Redfield ART 1's and Leatherwood ART 2's and saw it first hand. Though in fairness they saw more use than your typical M1A and generally under harsher conditions. The Numrich mount is simply a typical 2 point aluminum mount, nothing 4 point about it that I can see. And at 44-45 bucks your simply getting what you pay for. DI5

Thanks everyone, great input from multiple view points. Even one new item i had never seen or heard!

That is a Leapers UTG (R) model MNT-914V2 scope mount.
