Life is so hard for them during the sit in.
There were six fundraising emails sent to constituents, the first went out at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday night, and continued throughout the evening, one at midnight, 1:30 a.m., and continuing on till the final email, where Minority leader Nancy Pelosi (D) asked for more money.
“We’re emailing you so early because we need to defeat these AWFUL Republicans — NOW.” The emails decried the Republicans for their “inaction,” one email stating “Republicans STILL won’t lift a finger.”
Democratic House Member in California Jared Huffman also sent out a fundraising email claiming that Speaker of the House Paul Ryan “cut off our mics, cut the TV cameras, and retreated to his office.” Huffman used a picture of him at the sit-in in his fundraising email, breaking a major fundraising rule according to Martin.
Despite the fact that Democrats voted down two gun control bills sponsored by Republicans, the emails became a partisan grab for money from constituents.
Democrats went to great lengths to describe the sacrifices that they were making for the American voter. Each email listed the number of hours that House Democrats have been “sitting” on the House floor. The emails failed to mention the 5-star service that the Democrats received.
A full-service catered buffet was ordered featuring pizza, grilled chicken, cornbread, spinach, and mashed potatoes, pasta, and assorted sides. In addition to that, a local hotel donated “fluffy down pillows” to the Democrats sacrificing their time for their country.
