I recently purchased a Boyds medium contour laminated birch stock for my M1A. I am upgrading from the synthetic stock it came with, and wanting to transfer as much of the hardware as possible to save money. My main concern is the stock ferrule, which I removed and attempted to put on the new stock. It will fit, but there is a 1/8 gap where it normally should be flush with the rest of the stock. I don’t believe this is right. Do I need to purchase a NM stock ferrule or the standard GI ferrule? Is the synthetic stock ferrule inferior/smaller by design? Second fitting issue is the rubber but pad. The pad from my old stock wont fit unless I drill another hole to accommodate a plastic stud above the cleaning compartment. Also the diameter of the stock is quite a bit wider than the butpad. Is there a rubbber but pad I can buy that will match this wider stock?

Thanks for your help and suggestions.
