Just received this the other day from Smith Enterprises along with the Direct Connect Vortex. Just got around to putting some Krylon on it.

I also have Tony building me a LAW Collapsing/Folder. I'll post those pics once I install and paint it.

Nice setup! Is that a SA Inc. SOCOM front sight?
It's an XS Systems tritium front sight, which SA uses on the "SOCOM 16".

A couple of our guys got rid of their Squad/Scout rifles to buy the SOCOMs. (Which is how I ended up with this one.)
They now have a short rifle that produces a lot of flash. Mine's only a few inches longer than the SOCOM with no flash and I don't have a proprietary thread setup, so I can stick anything I want on it.
What do you put on those mounts on the right forend of your stock?
That's where my light goes. Either an M3 or X200, or if I need a lot of light I'll stick my 6V Surefire on it.
I like the paint job how did you do it! !! !

I have a technique that I've perfected on many a 2x4 and old gunstock before "going into production."

I'll get it together and present it in a separate thread if many folks are interested.

I don't just paint for aesthetics. I'm an active sniper and cannot have equipment that stands out in the bush. Camo is adjusted according to season and terrain. One paint job may work well for one place, but not another. You can't be afraid to give your weapon some Krylon lovin'.
who makes the side mounts?

Very nice setup. I like the addition of the side mounts. Where can I get them?
So let me get this right. The scout barrels have the same threads as the full sized barrels? But the socom barrels have a different thread style and pitch? If so that will make my mind up about the socom vs. scout squad. Someone enlighten me.

That sir, would be correct. The gas system had to be modified on the Socom to accomodate a 16 inch barrel. So your options on the Socom are a bit limited....Now the Scout and the Standard have the same threads and interchangability (sp?) options..

Thanks for the info. I knew the gas system was modified but didnt know you couldnt switch out different FH and MB because of a different thread. Looks like a scout with collapsible stock for me.
What is the barrel profile on that barrel?

Is that a stock SA barrel mount?

Any info is appreciated.

Thanks,
That looks really sweet! Does the iron sight hold your zero well? I ask because it seems that everything you take the gas cylinder lock off, it might change the position of the front sight when you put it back on - but it looks very sturdy so that might not be a problem.
again, a beautiful rifle

That's a polymer Insight Tech mount. GGG makes them in steel as well. www.impactguns.com and www.botac.com have them fairly reasonable.

SFG:

Haven't done a thing with the bbl. Stock SA.

Yute:

Have't done RTZ testing with the sight, but the threads are timed on the gaslock. I can't imagine it going too far out. Besides, it isn't a NM rifle, it's a bush gun with enlarged XS sights. Center mass hits at around 200 yards are all I'm looking for, even though I'm sure it's capable of much better.

SOCOM's are sexy, but the proprietary gas system was a minus as far as I was concerned. I want options with this rifle, including the option to put a suppressor on if need be.

Thanks to all for your kind comments.

The more I look at the gas lock, the neater idea I think it is - I have a friend who was in Vietnam who didn't particularly like the m14 because everytime he used his bayonet (I didn't ask on what), his front sight would get all screwed up, he would loose his zero, (not to mention the flashider being misaligned). As the gas lock sight is not on the flash hider, no muzzle strikes would affect it. Neato!

I''m probably going to pick one up myself for an upcoming build - did you call into Smith? They don't seem to have it on their website.

Give us a range report sometime! :D

Thanks!
