In Viet Nam, I wore jungle boots without socks after the Corpsman said it might help my feet, which were rotting. Never had a problem again.

I was issued 3 pairs of the old style jungle boots. One was kept for "starches and spits" and other 2 got immediately soaked in hot water to break them in. I was also told not to wear socks when in a "total immersion" AO.

The worst part on them was where the top of the leather heel was stitched to the nylon upper. I think I still have callouses there. RNGR2

I still have a pair or two stashed in my old foot locker in the barn. Makes my feet hurt just thinking about them.
