Picked up this well used Winchester 1890 in .22 WRF circa 1910 ,heavy dark patina .
Bore has scattered pitting but decent rifling and semi bright.Need to get some ammo. Old rifle is pretty well untouched ,lots of grime /dried oil varnish in the nooks and crannies.
Still functions smooth and tight.

Missing tang screw,so Ill have to get one.

I love the J.Browning slide actions,I have 1890 , 1890 Rossi copy,1906,and 62A .Fun little rifles .

Great pick up! Love those too. My grandparents had one that I got to use a lot on ground squirrels. Another family member ended up with it unfortunately. Hope you can track down ammo at a reasonable price

Hello,
Cool, old .22 rifle.
I'm working on an old Model 61 .22 pump for a friend(early 40s).

Even, cooler is the early Model 94 Lever action chambered in 38-55; it functions/cycles but, is destined to be a wall hanger. That, he received from his fathers collection. LEOs have all the cool stuff... yet, I get to work on them. And, of course function test before return...but, not this one.
What a hobby...

Like, I said. It's a wall hanger(what a shame). Yet, think of the game it must have taken down in its prime...
Sorry, not intended to hijack your post. But, this rifle is screaming been there done that...
Again, Nice .22 you picked up.

I have collected 1890's and 06's since i was about 11 years old. They were the first rifle I was able to afford to by and shoot. Brings back a lot of good times. I gave my girl her first one when she was 6.About drove me broke buying 22 bullets for her. Awesome times.

Found an original tang screw ,installed fired 10 rounds of vintage WRA ammo this morning just after sun up . Near zero wind chill ,on bare hands little rough on the fingers.
Considering bore is 6 of 10 it will still take small game.300 rounds just shipped from CCI at $17.99 per 50

They must have started that production up after 2017 after I left. Winchester did do limited runs on WRF for a while. I have 1 box left. My kid shot up most of it one day. I did not realize it at the time until i saw 2 empty boxes on the bench. ;) She had fun . That is all that matters. Can you tell me if it was made in lewiston, id.? should say on the back of the box.
