I recently acquired this beauty from a fellow forum member, and am extremely proud to say that I have my very own m14 clone:

go big or go home, right?

Well today was the first day (almost) above freezing here in WI, so I had to get her to the range.
Time: 11:00
Temp: 30 degrees F
Wind: >5 mph shifting directions
Light: nice light although the reflection off the snow was interesting
Ammo: FGMM 175 (i know it's overkill at 100 for paper, but that's what the scope was 0'ed with)
Breakfast: Banana

setup at the range:
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/5440923664/" title="Range Trip 2.12.11 004 by nlcarlisle005, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5096/5440923664_c292cbf4f6.jpg" width="500" height="374" alt="Range Trip 2.12.11 004" /></a>

as you can see, a backpack used as a front rest.

the view from my chair:
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/5440924060/" title="Range Trip 2.12.11 005 by nlcarlisle005, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4146/5440924060_47fe10011d.jpg" width="374" height="500" alt="Range Trip 2.12.11 005" /></a>

They were kind enough to plow a path to our targets, which was a bonus:
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/5440320203/" title="Range Trip 2.12.11 006 by nlcarlisle005, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5096/5440320203_100dc63438.jpg" width="374" height="500" alt="Range Trip 2.12.11 006" /></a>

on to the shooting, Target 1:
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/5440925318/" title="Range Trip 2.12.11 008 by nlcarlisle005, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4135/5440925318_bd78521f73.jpg" width="374" height="500" alt="Range Trip 2.12.11 008" /></a>
The cold bore shot is the one at 9 o'clock and away from the group...

Target 2:
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/5440925730/" title="Range Trip 2.12.11 009 by nlcarlisle005, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4096/5440925730_e825930a08.jpg" width="374" height="500" alt="Range Trip 2.12.11 009" /></a>
Cold bore shot at 10:30, not as good a group, but not terrible.

Target 3:
<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/5440321851/" title="Range Trip 2.12.11 010 by nlcarlisle005, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4073/5440321851_e1b7d60782.jpg" width="374" height="500" alt="Range Trip 2.12.11 010" /></a>
cold bore at 9 o'clock again.

I think we understand each other. I can't wait to put some rounds down range when I don't mind spending ALL DAY at the range, was a bit chilly for that today. I'm pretty excited to get to work with the irons on this beast too, was too wussy to spend more time out than I had.

I tried some Prvi Partizan .308 (again 175 for consistency), but wasn't too impressed (about minute of Grapefruit):

other rifles were shot on this trip, but nothing worth noting.
FRG1 All-in-all, was a great day at the range!! FRG1

Hats off to a shooter who can take a less than optimal day and turn it into such a great experience. Very Nice rifle, very nice targets, a good day at the range, priceless.

Nice. LRB M25 with extended rail, M21 stock, USO scope, Badger rings, Turner sling, folding ACI, forward bottom rail... just plain sexy and looks to be a shooter too.

Outstanding first time out with an M14!

You're doing that rifle justice! CWO Miller chambered that specifically for the FGMM
175grn and Gene Barnett turned that barrel with that round in mind. A quarter is a shade less than an inch, and without the flyers some of those groups are already approaching sub-MOA. With time you'll get .5" or better. Great job!

Sweet! I think after my LRB m25 tanker that's what I want to build!!!!!! It looks cold.

Here 75 degrees, no wind, no clouds..... Only thing you had that beat all of that is a range day! Awesome rifle.

Beautiful stick, Nick. Top of the line, across the board. I'm jealous.

Congratulations on a good "get"! She looks GREAT and is a shooter! Very cool, sir!

To brave the snow and cold... Hats off to you!

Just looking at the pictures made me feel chilled! BTW: I really like the range pics. GI6

The rifle's nice... the scope is awesome!LOL1

Just kidding, that is a great looking rifle too. I have a bad case of the wants for a USO so that was the first thing that caught my eye.

I just ordered a new USO for my setup. Darin at www.cftactical.com can hook you up when you're ready. Just configure it on USO's site and e-mail him the specs. I can't give out pricing info but it's worth your time.

I just took her out the other day when the temprature was a little more favorable and was able to put 3 shots just over 1.5 inches (1.73ish) at 300 yards, I was too much of a puss to put rounds 4 and 5 down range to mess up the target. The rifle is amazing, the scope is clear as can be (still learning the Mil adjustments though)

I have been wondering, as I wait here for my rings to arrive, how close does the windage knob come to being smacked with the ejected casings? Does the rail on the M25 do a good job of deflecting them?

Mine is going to have a SS 10x42 HD perched on it, and the knobs are not exactly low-profile.
