I don't think much of Glock pistols, but I picked up this Glock knife 35 years ago while serving in Rangers (we could only parachute with plastic sheaths).

It's been sharpened several times and is no stranger to bluing paste, but I still swear by it on hiking and camping trips. Best $20 I ever spent that wasn't on women or liquor.

This will do for now, less than $40.00! I ordered this:

I find this one to be well balanced for me and comfortable in my hand. Says USA right on it.
Sharpens well and holds an edge as good as anything in this price range.

If i didn't already have what I like, I would be seriously considering this one.
Ordered this too:

I am a real oldschool guy, don´t like plastic in my Cars, at my motorcycle ( old BMW ) and on my weapons. The Ka Bar i love, cause its just steel and leather.
As I first time had a Glock knife in my hands, my thought was "hm, ty plastic. How long will that last? " and putted it away in the drawer. My first choice at that time was the Fällkniven A1. A beautiful, but expensive steel. That was 20 years ago.

Today the Glock is my true friend in my garage - the sheath is durable, the knife seems undestroyable. You can release the knife from the sheath onehanded, and put it back with a remarkable "click", so you know, you will not loose that knife anyway. The knife keeps its sharpness for a long time and is ready for use again with a little water and a whetstone.

If you looking for a cheap but sharp and light knife, try MORA knives. Some of them can swim.

kabars are great because they bend but i think theres better options these days as many have said the cold steel srk. i've had both but i just got the smaller version for the truck and its pretty much perfect. crazy sharp out of the box too. wonder if that navy knife of your dads was actually the air force survival knife heres a link: https://www.google.com/amp/s/majorh...-history-of-the-air-force-survival-knife/amp/
the 'blood groove' is actually a structural detail called a 'fuller' meant to stiffen the blade. my dad also has one. they were very popular up to about the 70's i think.
heres another kabar that ive owned that i found pretty practical. i really like steel pommels: https://www.knifecenter.com/item/KA...ife-blade-black-kraton-g-handles-kydex-sheath

i could go on about knives forever. used to collect them, made a few. check out esee as well. if you break on of their knives theyll replace no questions asked. esee 3 or 4 is my primary knife almost every day.

Ka-Bars are still great knives. I did my homework on them a while back. The only thing I would recommend is that you get the synthetic black handle instead of the leather. The leather is beautiful and classic, but it traps moisture against the tang and rusts it. Eventually it will fail. The synthetic handle solves that problem.

I found the knife I had!
Took a lot of searching.
It is a military knife . . . it's on this farm somewhere in the woods.
It never had a correct scabbard, I made a makeshift one from a different knife, that's why it fell out and got lost.

" U.S. World War 2 Camillus Mark 1 fighting knife. This U.S. World War II Mark 1 combat knife is ID'd. This fighting knife would make an important addition to any collection."
"This knife is marked on the blade 'CAMILLUS CUTLERY CO. CAMILLUS, N.Y.'. The Mark 1 scabbard is stitched and riveted. The scabbard is marked 'QUIGLEY O-795825'. This knife measures 9 1/8" overall. The blade itself measures 5"."

An Air Force survival knife with sheath and sharpening stone are USA made and used to be available as new surplus cheap.
I bet you can still find a USA made surplus one somewhere. I have several. I like them for their shorter blade.

This is a link to a china made copy, it may be a good knife even though it comes from china.

This would be my suggestion as well. Size makes it much more useful than the clunky K-bar.

Always had a soft spot for the Ka-Bar. Carried one in Vietnam and got one soon after I got out. As you can see by the responses, there are any number of choices and opinions. That said, the Ka-Bar will do anything you need it to and come back for more. You can spend a lot more for a knife, but why?

My Moras... cheap but very sharp. The short one is excellent for collecting mushrooms or gutting fish.

Are these legit Ka-Bars on Amazon?

I don't need a Rambo knife, just something heavy duty and durable.
But this price worries me????
Seems pretty cheap to me to be a decent HD knife in my thinking.
Anyone ever bought one of these?
Can you recommend something similar and better?
Even an old used classic similar knife will do me fine.
I just don't want a piece of junk.
Thanks!

ETA: I mentioned Ka-Bar because it was the only name I knew.
I had an excellent general use knife for years, was issued to my dad in the navy, it was a small fixed blade, leather handle, with a Camillus blade with blood grove. I always thought it was a small Ka-Bar but it looked different than the big knife carried by Marines. I think it was issued for general duties on board or something. A real shame I lost it. Maybe I can find one on eBay and get a picture to help me hunt one down?
I'll be back!
ETA AGAIN: I did not see any knives the same, some similar, but not same. Mine did not have any military markings, only "Camillus" on the blade.
It looked similar to this knife on eBay but where you see the markings below mine only had "Camillus."
My knife had a heavy blade with blood groove also. I'm sure it came from the navy, dad was not the type to spend money on a knife.

The KA-Bar looks legit. Price ok. Also, can return by UPS to Amazon for free if not satisfied. Also, Cold Steel SRK is good knife. I have had both knives for years and carry the SRK daily. It's a little less bulky. Both are good blades.

Not to be too much of the party pooper, but there's no such thing as a "blood groove". It's a bullshit term to impress the impressionable. The correct term is the "fuller", Blade Fullers | Swords and Knives | David Atkinson (atkinson-swords.com) It's intended to reduce the weight of the blade and there's nothing to do with getting blood to spray out.

Have a great Thanksgiving & Christmas, folks, it's getting chilly out there! (y)

The K-Bar as a military issue knife as no cost to you was an excellent knife, but if your paying your money the blade chips and bends. On the other hand an excellent knife is the now current issued knife the M9 bayonet. Like the AK bayonet it can be used as a wire cutter, does not chip, or bend and hold an edge. Really a great knife and a chopper. After 30 yr's in the Corps it's the best knife the service has issued. That's only my belief.
