Yeah, I get some interest in my stock. I bought it on eBay quite a few years back with unknown history other than it was on some rear-lugged rifle. Just needs one of those shooting team stickers.
Those shooting team stickers have been known as Wannabee ID tags.

I had a real marine shooting team member send me one of those original Shooting Team stickers and adds a bit of realism to the clone build.

Looks somewhat familiar. I'm still trying to remember why I ordered a desert scheme from Mac back in the day though. Not much desert around these parts.....

Some photos from a few years ago. I used to have 3 desert smear stocks, I acquired the 3rd one after these pics were taken and I traded one of them to Terry last year. I sold or traded the green smear in this photo, it had checkering carved into the grip by the Marine who used this stock. This is how I ended up with the green smear on my rifle in this thread, I essentially upgraded from the green smear in these photos to the one in the photos in this thread's first post. I'm going to send Terry my 2 desert tan smears soon, and I'm trying to work a deal with him on another USMC M14 stock. I have original USMC Barnett shooting team barrels for all of these shooting team builds. Can't wait until they're all complete!

I am with you on that, Sir!

In my case, when I meet with the previous owner of the stocks in Carlsbad, Ca., I promised him that I will bring those stocks to use, not in a competitive manner but more on like a weekend family range rifles, and that It will stay in my family for life (that's if, my state won't interfere). The decals on the stocks represents a special nostagia of that man's accomplishments that will truly and fully be treasured by me, and my family.

Thing is the Marine who sold me the USMC TEAM RIFLE STOCK also sent a new USMC team decal to replace the worn out one on the stock. If he had had a issue with it being proudly displayed on a USMC TEAM RIFLE CLONE he wouldn’t have sent it!

In fact I dare say if he had a concern, he would have removed the worn decal from the stock before shipping it to me.

A person presenting themselves as a marine who is not, thats one thing. A person displaying the Marine Corps emblem to me shows respect, and if asked about it. I would simply say the rifle is a clone of a USMC TEAM RIFLE down to the original decal on the stock. No one, including USMC veterans will see anything but a tribute to their sacrifices.

Art, I hear what you are saying. I do see a difference between displaying an insignia on one’s person or on one’s vehicle and displaying it on a weapon that is intended as a tribute. Now if the owner shot the rifle in actual competition, I would not approve of that either.

The Marines are a proud bunch and I have no problem when one wants to pay tribute to the Marine Corps Shooting Team with a decal on their rifle which wouldn't be much of a clone of the Marine Corps rifle without the decal. I have an Air Force Shooting Team decal on my NM rifle. In my case it is a carry over from my days as an Air Force shooter, but I would probably have it even if I wasn't. It's more about the tribute rather than false recognition for something not done.
