I didn't know there would be a whole section here on my other favorite rifle! Here is one I put together even before the Remington entry. I wrote up the project for the Oct. 2002 issue of Small Arms Review. I believe its still available to read on line, if you google the title. If you cant find it or want any info let me know. Mine shoots great by the way. Shilen barrel.

THIS was the article that put me the road to a pursuing a M40 build.

A web friend who built a bug-hole shoot'n, deer and hog bust'n, M40 clone in 5.56/.223 put me over the edge, from 'wants or needs,' to must have.

A lot has happened in the way of parts research, for clone builders, since that article appeared. High quality reproduction and improved parts availability has made all the difference for M40 clone builders. Recent access to originals has also helped tremendously.

Using only original Remington/surviving USMC M40 parts, is an entirely different level of building/collecting. Forum member USMC0331 has ~3 or 4 such rifles in progress.

Have an extra stock laying around and just might do a 5.56/.223 when I'm done with the .308WIN. Undecided...

I'm not as much into it, as just not done with it yet.

FWIW, I originally came here, brought the M40 topic with me and shortly thereafter had an M1A. It's not my fault...
