Not to HiJack other threads here are some of my experiences with the 30 Cal Carbine.

First, I have never owned one, but I have shot a bunch of them.
Several thousand rounds...

Once upon a time at my "gun club" we could shoot the 30cal carbine durring early IPSC type matches. We even had some guys with the M2 full auto version.
I learned early on that with 15 round mags, reliability was high, with 30 rounders, not so much so...

We used to shoot them a lot in our matches, as it was the only centerfire rifle we could shoot on our range. We had a bunch of fun with them...

I found the M1 Carbine to be MOST HANDY. I cannot think of any other rifle that even comes close...

They are great fun to shoot as well...

So lets step up to their practical use for the Civilian shooter...

They have been "named" to be vastly underpowered for deer hunting...

So what about Civilian Personal Defense???

Well, thoughts were, use the HP [Hollow Point] or SP [Soft Point] ammo. This gives you about the same "power" as a 357 Mag handgun. Which has a pretty good record...

In todays World, for serious purposes I would use the CorBon DPX ammo...

My brother in law has a 30 Cal Carbine, I do like to shoot it...
They are very handy...

My dad killed his first deer with the M1 Carbine back in the early 70's. I still have the carbine to this day.
