A brake (side ports) merely reduces the felt recoil by pulling the rifle forward.

A compensator (top ports) will push the barrel down, keeping the sights on target and allowing you to make faster follow-up shots.

You have to look at each individual muzzle device to see what it actually does, as many manufacturers get the names confused.

SAI calls the device on the Socom a brake, when it is actually a compensator.

No muzzle device really makes a rifle more "accurate," unless it makes the barrel harmonics more in tune with the universe. They can, however, make the shooter more accurate by making the rifle easier or more comfortable to shoot.

The Smith Coast Guard brake is both a compensator and brake. It is very popular with a lot of shooters. I use their National Match version of the same brake. It is a little longer and also acts a flash suppressor.

I have the jp delta large comp. it keeps you on target .
But as Kurt indicates, do not make it more accurate.
You need an adapter, delta p, or SEI. I have the SEI at half the cost of delta p.

The adapter allows you to put any comp or mb with that thread pattern.

Or you can install a direct attached type from SEI

SEI USCG Muzzle Break

I installed one of the USCG Muzzle Breaks from SEI on my SAI NM M-1A and it did help a lot with muzzle jump and felt recoil, it is a simple direct replacement of the original flash suppressor , no adapter required.

i have the SEI 'Good Iron' USCG brake on mine like was mentioned. it helped tremendously with felt recoil. it no longer bruises my shoulders after couple hundred rounds and have quicker shots. if your standing to either side of my or even behind me you can feel each shot like a shockwave. easy to install, just 2 set screwes (1 for front sight and 1 for castle nut) and the castle nut and it comes off

my understanding is that brakes dont make the gun louder. they just redirect alot of sound back to the shooter so it sounds louder.
