Aloha,

A while back I picked up a BushMaster that I made into my "Fun Gun", but dang if it didn't get lonely... so I decided to get the bigger "brother" the AR-10T... This one is the Eagle Arms AR-10T with 24" Chrome Moly barrel, GG&G riser and a SA 10X 3rd Gen Mil Dot scope with ARMS #22 rings...

I have no idea how it (AR-10) will shoot, however, I hope to give her a try tomorrow.

This is a side by side picture with the BushMaster FunGun...

A little better shot of the AR-10T...

This is how the business end will look like...

For the picture buffs, I took another close up that came out fairly well, but this time, I had a light colored backgroud. A dark colored background I think would have been better... I am sure some will ask... WHY? Well, aside from being a distraction from the main focus of my collection... M14's and M1 Garands... I wanted to see how these performed at the range... I was curious.

I won't get into a debate on which rifles are better between the M14 types and the AR-10's or AR-15's for that matter, but I will say... dance with whoever you brought to dance with... it don't matter! As for the soldiers... unfortunately, they don't normally get a choice as to what they want to "rock-n-roll" with... and that is a shame...

Though I personally am not a fan here I will say that I like the idea of the caliber.

What is that anyhoo ... A Ten Rounder ... ???

You'll definately have to let us know how it performs ... I'm curious to see how it will do. Happy Shootin Pardna ... :D

More toys for more fun TomO. I like the idea of an AR-10.

I traded for a Ruger 77 in .338 Win Mag, accuracy is outstanding. :D
It will beat the snot out of you. 8O Lots of fun on a limited basis.

Thanks for posting everyone...

SixT: That AR-10 mag is a 10 rounder. And of all things, the AR-10 uses converted M14 mags! Not like we don't already have a shortage to begin with!

I think that was a really bad idea with having to convert pre-ban M14 mags for this "NEW" rifle. IMHO, I think Armalite should have made the rifle functional with either M14 (to keep the weapon all USA made) or with FAL mags. FAL mags, brand new, can be purchased for less than $10. And are plentiful.

This is my first AR-10 type rifle and hope to really see what I can do with it... and to make some personal comparisons with our M14 type rifles.

Wish me luck, folks!

Tom,

There’s an AR-10 forum over on arf.com you might want to check out. It’s a bit different than the general forum. The guys there are pretty cool and avid fans of the AR-10 kinda like we are of our beloved M14.

On the AR-10 forum at arf.com there was a little discussion about using FAL mags, I guess once they are converted they are not able to function in the original weapon (FAL) and that’s a no no.

Best regards, T

Thanks T:

I will check it out, but I have some mags that I bought and just picked up conversion kits to make about 8 more. But I think if Armalite made the transition to FAL mags, it would be cheaper for AR10 fans and leave more of a supply of M14 mags for us!

Thanks again!

Tom,

I think those guys did pretty good. I think the guys with the bolt guns in the class had an advantage in the accuracy department but the AR-10 and the M1A sure was much better at those follow up shots when we were doing moving targets.

Let us know how your AR-10 shoots. Love to see some pics :)

I did get a chance to shoot the AR-10 a couple of weeks back, and it was fun! But it is very different from my battle rifles (M1 Garands and M14 type rifles)... so I decided that when they do see day light (the black guns) then I will take all of them one time and make a day of it! That would include the AR-15's, AR-10 and the FAL (SAR-48).

The next time I go to the range, it is planned for it to be a Garand day! All of the M1 Garands will get to play!

I love firearms of all kinds and only wish that I could have more range time!

Tom
you can use those cheap USA or other cheap brand mags to do your conversion .Just change out the cheap spring to a good one . be sure to keep the old body as proof of a legal conversion . They are good Quality mag bodies that Armalite uses ! Besides you can use them in your M1A's .

Hi Mike,

I got the Armalite conversion kits and assembled all the mags. Armalite did a really good job on the bodies. The only thing that I didn't like was the follower. Occasionally, the follower allows the bullets to "nose dive" into the feed ramp pushing the bullet head into the case.

I have read the tech update at Armalite, and stoned the inside and made sure that the follower rides up and down smoothly, however, it is my thought that the plastic follower is not as good as the USGI follower in my M14 mags.

I have not tried using the USA type M14 magazines, but is a thought! Thanks for the heads up!
