I have an Archangel stock with a Promag M14 Tactical See-Thru Steel Scope Mount and a Vortex® Viper PST Riflescope. My problem is with the rings. I have tried a couple different types but can't seem to get the zero anywhere close. Maxed out I still have to hold 6mildots high at 100yds.

I want to zero at 300yds and the ability to shoot out to 1000 yds. Folks I have went to, say that the rear ring must be shimmed and I will loose everything out to 500yds.

I know this is not true, because we used to do this in the army. Wood stock, Leupold scope, weaver rings, 300 zero and engage tgts at varying distances out to 800 on a daily bases.

Can anyone help with this? Is the problem with one of my components?

Any advice will help!

Kinda late but you might try some Burris signature z rings with the MOA inserts. You can get up to 40 MOA with the right ones. If you order some you have to order the inserts seperatly if I remember right.
