The Montana Rifle and Pistol Association will be hosting the 3rd annual Montana M1A/M14 State Championship at Missoula's Deep Creek Rifle range. The match date is Friday, June 21st, with registration at 1:00 and firing getting underway at 2:00. The match is run the same weekend as our State Service Rifle Tournament, which is fired over Saturday and Sunday.
The Montana M1A Championship uses the same Course of Fire as the match at Camp Perry, with 50 shots for record, all fired at 300yds. Firing starts with unlimited sighters and 20 record shots prone slowfire, and then progresses thru prone rapid fire, sitting rapid fire and off hand - with 10 record shots at each position.
Depending on attendance, there will be either 2 or 3 relays. This is a great match to give position shooting a try if you never have done it, and you are welcome to use ANY service or match rifle (and that applies to the entire weekend).
We will have some used USGI M14 magazines there for sale @ $18 each available to those competing. We will also have a few small prizes.
The entire weekend is a great time with a lot of shooting taking place. We have an 80 shot XTC match and a 15 shot long range match at 800 yds on Saturday and on Sunday we start with a 30 shot team match and end the day with a 50 shot leg match. There is also a free catered dinner from Famous Daves BBQ on Saturday evening.
If you are interested in competing on any of the days, you need to preregister by contacting me at: jameydan AT gmail.com
See you on the firing line!
