I hate the looks of the old style handguard and wondered if anyone had tried this style or another like it? Open to suggestions

I would like to see a lightweight aluminum one with vent holes, however, that one looks like it'll add a bit of heft, in addition to occupying the scope mount which I'd need.

The UTG handguard is not the best available. I have the Ultimak M-8. Excellent quality, same height as the receiver (lowest mount on the market). you can cowitness with a red dot sight. It can only be used on a standard contour barrel though.
