Whatever grease I use on my firearms are all petroleum based. I want NOTHING that is biodegradable on my weapons.

Plastilube for grease. 30 weight non-detergent motor oil since it seems to stick to the parts better than about anything else I've used. Hoppes #9 bore cleaner.

Sorry gentlemen but this conventional wisdom is technically incorrect. There is nothing about a lubricant that “attracts” dirt. It does hold dirt in suspension and in most cases that is preferable to operating with dry dirt on the mechanism.

Operating without adequate lubrication is far more of an issue than operating with too much of it.

I use LSA for everything except the grease points on the Garand, Carbine, BM59, and M1A. For those I use red hi temp grease.

Mobil 1 and whatever good gun oil that's around (usually hoppe's #9)

I use moly Grease on the roller and very small dabs of grease in various places, ie, wear surfaces in the trigger mechanism. I use synthetic Lucas oil sparingly on the pins. No oil or grease on piston just clean off the carbon with a brush.
