It is hard to argue against a knife style (KA-BAR) that has been in use since 1943. It has been both battle proven and is a reliable, multi-purpose knife for everyday tasks.

It goes without saying...but I recommend the KABAR.GI1

mk3 vs kabar?

I had a mk 3 for several years when I was a dive master in the fl. keys. hundreds of deep wrecks offshore, very secure ,difficult to take an edge,I think the tip would have broken pretty easily if I had used it for more than cutting old fish nets and fishing line caught around the wrecks we were diving.I think I would vote for a kabar

I have a Mk3Mod0 and have had Kabar as well. I dont think you can go wrong with either one. I find the Mk3 more heavy duty. The steel pommel is great for hammering and I dont find the blade is hard to sharpen at all. Either choice will serve you well.
