As I reported got scammed a year ago. Reported to FBI< Postal Service, Local Police, State police and other agencies. They all did absolutely nothing. Although FBI reported they receive thousands of scam calls and reports daily. go figure. Please please do not use any direct payment method, Zelle and other payment methods etc. Use national charge cards, if you have a problem suspect fraud you call them and cancel payment etc. Had a local woman got scammed out of one hundred thousand dollars ,,, scammer reported that they were DEA and she should put $25,00 thousand dollars on from porch. next day called her and asked for $75.00 thousand in gold and stuff ,,, she did. Dumber than a box of rocks, another family lost close to a million on Bit Coin, As WC Fields reported there's a sucker born every day. This Forum should start a permanent category dealing with nothing but scams etc.

Thank you in advance; Junnie

P.S.: Dont risk a questionable buy just because you want that object asap. That's how i got suckered. Need powder and loading components. Bit hook line and sinker.

Scammers have a workaround for that as well by hacking a well known poster's account and dealing in their name.

Happened on the CMP forum a while ago, I believe.
Sure, scammers will always try to find a way to do that.

My point was that unless your friend has a CC merchant account, meaning he can take and accept CC payments... you're left with few options. And then flip this and be the guy trying to sell something. Someone sends you a check. You deposit it and send the merchandise. They then cancel the check.

There has to be some level of trust involved in this transaction.

So you end up either going thru a store, or you take the risk.
(Stores do take consignment goods. But they're going to want to take a cut of the transaction...)

I had a skanky deal on GB. A few years ago I ordered a .22 conversion kit for my sons Christmas present. The guy that advertised wanted MO. I sent one and a few days later got a message that I needed to pay or I'd lose the deal. I told the guy I sent it and he asked if I could prove it. I foolishly didn't request a delivery receipt. My wife tracked down the canceled MO and the goof had signed and cashed it. I copied it and sent it to him asking if that was his signature. Immediate apology and sent the kit. Thieves are out there. Most of us don't expect it because we're not. I am much more suspicious of any transaction that's not face to face. FWIW, DVC

I will say that this forum is simply not what it was even 2-3 years ago. Used to be that everyone here was a M14 enthusiast; I just don't get that feeling anymore. Further, when the format changed and the buyer/seller feedback (now "Reviews") was disabled, I can't help but think that's when the scammers really started to show. Not that it was all 100% peachy prior to that, but at least there was a way to get a feel for the generally anonymous person you were dealing with on the other side. And while the Reviews section is now back, it's not 100% functional as I don't think any new reviews can be added--at least as far as I can tell, maybe I'm wrong on that.
I used to buy from here but have not bought anything since the format of the site changed.

I have to admit that I recently took a leap of faith with Zelle. Guy had a Knight's RAS M5 rail system (for the M16A4) and you just can't find them these days. Found him on a gun-swapping site and he had good feedback from previous deals. I contacted him (he lives in Texas) and we agreed on a price and I sent it via Zelle. It was over Thanksgiving and my wife and I were out of town so I asked him to hold shipment as I didn't want it sitting on my porch when I wasn't there. He said to let him know when to ship. I texted him Thanksgiving morning and said "Go ahead and ship tomorrow morning if you would". He sent me the USPS tracking number the next day and it got here the Monday after Thanksgiving (was sent 2-Day Priority). It was exactly as advertised too!

Yeah, I got lucky but did do some looking into his prior transactions on that site before making contact, so doing my homework paid off. YMMV.

I think using Zelle or similar is fine as long as you can verify the seller. Like me I prefer Zelle or chase quick pay for two reasons. I’m not a store I don’t want to wait for my money and I’m not waiting 30 days in case change your mind. With that said communication is everything. I answer questions asap I send more pictures as needed, always tracking numbers and full insurance and I’m willing to give out my personal information to buyers. If for some reason it’s a problem then I’ll take it back. PayPal doesn’t even let knife companies use them anymore. I disagree with EBay who knowingly allows scammers and both eBay and PayPal don’t support my values.

I recently bought a product with Apple Pay and the company then informed me it’s over a year wait. I asked to cancel the sale and they would not. So I contacted Apple Pay and had the charges refunded. So it’s also an option. Again it’s all in the communication.
