We need to start a thread about things we can do to detect and out these scammers BEFORE we send our money.
Like maybe, have them send to prospective buyer a copy of their drivers license, voter ID card, electric bill, etc. Anyone who refuses that I wouldn't send my money to. Also, pictures of something with a date and time in it written on an index card. Just a couple of things off top of my head.
MODS: Why don't you start this thread for us please. Title it "SCAMMERS: Things you can do to detect them" or something like that.

Ask for phone number to talk to the seller. If they dont want to talk on phone..... thats a red flag
Have seller take more pictures of specific areas on rifle. If they wont take pics ............another red flag
Price to good to be true................. it is
If they ask payment in electronic form...................another red flag
If they accept hard payment ,google the address before sending .........Make sure its not going to a abandoned house etc .

I was rather hoping for an A Team reference, but this will suffice!Wish we could find out this guys exact location? We could gather up some members and head to Nigeria!

It’s been a few years since I’ve done any buying (only a little selling of small items). Alas, examples such have this have me even more tentative. Sorry for your troubles, Hammonje, and thank you for being willing to share your troubles with the group for collective learning. It’s given me some more things to sniff check in the future.

If you could track down this guy, find out where he lives, where he works, what his dog's name is . . . you know, like do a Sam Spade job on him . . . what could you do then?

There are easy ways to direct a IP address and spoof a location. Like stated in this thread. Call them on the phone. If they won't talk, move on.......IMHO

And they will not refund a money order due to fraud. Your only option is to report it.

Thanks for posting hammonje... I get quite a few things through the internet esp GB. Lately, I've not had any problems and started to be lax. Your post just kinda woke me up/slapped me on side of the head to be more careful. Sorry that you might have gotten scammed. If I was 40 yrs younger, I'd fly to Nigeria with everyone else. 😄
There is one story where I bought a laptop on ebay. I did everything right for checking out the seller and product. It all sounded good so I bought it. Long story short, I didn't get the laptop but the seller was scammed also into selling for a scammer... I called my credit card company and told them the story. I also had screen shots and other docs to back up my story. I got all my money back. No problems. The seller who was scammed lost about $2300... Unless I'm really confident, I only use a CC to purchase online.
Hope you do find some kind of resolution for this. I know the feeling.

No. The IP addresses from Africa have always been scammers.

Also, I doubt a VPN would want to route IP addresses through Africa anyway.
I’m certainly not an authority on the tech, but my overall experience is that.

Kudos to Hammonje for informing fellow members. That’s a gentleman thing to do, even at the cost of being open. It is greatly appreciated, and folks need to be respectful, accordingly.
