I use treated walnut. Cleans and polishes and if you decap first does not (mostly) get in the flash hole.

I mix half crushed walnut shells, half corn cob with a tablespoon of rubbing compound thrown in for good measure. Shines like a ruby on a bears as% .

I'm cheap, 50% crushed walnut aka lizard bedding from the pet store and 50% white rice. Then I add some sauce from Graf and Sons. For dust control a used dryer sheet.

I quit using corn cob after I had a bunch of cartridges retain some in the bottom of the case. Moisture? Don't know. It was such a pain getting it out that I just tossed the bunch. Had to look inside each one with a small light to see if the case was truly empty. I buy LCM (Lost Circulation Material) from a local drilling mud company, but beware- it has silica in it. It is crushed walnut hull in different sizes.
