I am thinking about purchasing a synthetic stock. The owner thinks it is a McMillian. Are their stocks marked so that you can ID them? If so, where are they marked?
Thanks.

No marks but we can easily tell by a picture. They are usually much thicker too.

If it's big, heavy, and stiff fiberglass it's probably a mcmillan. There were a couple other companies but they are the most common.

Be careful it is not an MPI stock. MPI is a company out of Oregon that makes heavy fiberglass stock for the M14/M1A. I have a stock made by them back in the mid 1990's and though not as good as McMillan it worked fine.

However, I bought another stock from them a few years later that cracked when a gunsmith tried to bed it. I returned it and instead of replacing it they did a crappy repair job which cracked again. They sent a third stock which also cracked and would no longer replace the stock or refund my money.
