One weeK away from the Saddle Butte Machine Gun event at the Albany Rifle and Pistol Club. I will have a table there, Saturday and Sunday, and my H&R M14 post sample will be available for anyone who wants to shoot an original. Okay, almost original, as the previous SOT owner cut the barrel to 16". Otherwise, it's the real deal, never cut, not welded. Let's get the Oregon contingent out to play!

Lucky 13, how did the 14 run?
It ran great, for the second year in a row. So far I have only run the ZQI ammo in it. There was one odd failure to fire, where the firing pin left its mark on the primer but the round didn't ignite. Odd, and something I'd expect only in old surplus, normally. I threw it in another mag with a couple other rounds and it all went off in a short burst.

The fun thing about the gun is that it has no muzzle lift set up with the 16" barrel and a very effective brake. It does push back on you hard, but the front end stays down. That's why I haven't followed my initial instinct to restore with a full length H&R barrel. It just works really well as it is.

So one of these days we will have to have an Oregon contingent day at Albany RPC and I will have it there for anyone to take it for a spin!

I just got permission to post video from a friend who I recorded at this year's event. I edited it enough to keep him anonymous. He is the second video down, and of the two of us is the one who looks like he knows what he is doing, lol.

This first video is from the 2015 Saddle Butte event, when I shot the M14 shorty for the first time. I was just learning how much I need to lean in to it, so this shows off my then-poor technique really well. I've got it down much better since. Really I have! (No laughing now!)

Fun stuff lucky, if I can find it somewhere there's a Spec Op fellow shooting one of "their" M14's with a short barrel and a very effective brake.
