Magazine Assembly & Requirements

Hello, I'm a newbie to the forum.

Just got a SA M1A NM and I have both 10 and 20 round magazines. Trained with and carried an M14 in the Army in the 60's but I have not touched one since then until a few weeks ago. I can't recall how to break down and reassemble the magazines. Can someone describe this for me?

Also, if you compete in highpower service rifle, do you have to use a 20 round mag? Thanks for any info.

Aloha SJS:

Remove the magazine floor plate, by sticking something into the small hole (like a punch tip or small screw driver) lift up the lip gently and the floorplate will slide out.

Remove the magazine spring. Take it easy and it won't jump out at you... and the magazine follower will be attached at the other end of the magazine spring (it will come out as one unit).

That should be it... magazine floorplate, magazine spring, magazine follower and the magazine body...

Reassemble in reverse of this procedure...

I hope this helps...

Aloha and Best Wishes,

Tom O.

DigHawaii,

Thanks much for the info.
in the Corps we used the tip of a FMJ round to push in the lip that holds the floorplate
Using the tip of a bullet ruins it (the bullet)..........Uggggh.

not for combat..... besides....with the black plastic toy, you needed it to push the pins out of the receiver to open it up for cleaning.....always kept one in my pocket.....in fact I have one in there right now

My M16 manual shows everything done for my M16A1/AR15 with a FMJ bullet!

Cool!

Speaking of bullet tip...........the first time I tried it...............the bullet bent the rifle case mouth................couldn't use the round...............Ugggghhh...............never again (for me).

Aloha, Mark
