M60 flash hider on a socom

Hey guys! I’m looking at getting the delta p adapter and I was wondering if the m60 hider would work. Are the threads on m60 hider 5/8-24?

I don't know about the M60 FH threading but I would like to hear a review with pictures on the Delta P Adapter.

UPDATE: I saw this posted on AR15 - M60 would be 5/8x24
M249 would be 1/2x28

When I shortened my RPD barrel and bipod to 16" I had an M60 style FH made for it.

The original M60 flash hider is big and heavy, do deal with the flame cutting of M80 ball at full auto. I forget the threads, but I seem to recall a pin thru it to keep it on.

For the CQB nature of the Socom, I strongly recommend a linear brake. All the gas will go forward. Nothing up, down or to the sides.

I have a high quality US made one in the PX, but you can find plenty of inexpensive imports on ebay.

KurtC: the original flash hider looks like it needs a pin, the M60E3 / E4 FLASH HIDERS look like they just thread without a pin. What would happen if a pin wasn’t used?

I never had to take one off. All we did was check to see that it couldn't be turned more than a fraction of an inch.

I came across a bunch of M60s with loose flash suppressors. Typically, the GIs would tip the gun up and rest it on the suppressor to disassemble. My guess is this why so many were loose. The pin is an actual Army nomenclature roll pin, not a spring pin.

If a pin isn’t needed, can I use rockset or blue loctite to hold it in place? I’m also considering this flash hider.

A friend tried the A2 style birdcage on his Socom. The only thing it was good for was taking up space. It wasn't very effective on 45 grains of ball powder going thru a 16 inch barrel. I think it's still lying around here somewhere.

Why would you replace the OEM hardware on a SOCOM? I've got one and it is one of the few muzzle breaks that actually does what it is intended to do: reduce recoil up-lift of muzzle. Just to make it pretty? Anything that works the way it's supposed to is "pretty" IMO.

Post makes me think OP is looking for a flash hider as opposed to a muzzle brake. Best 5/8"x24 FH I've found is the Smith Vortex (4 prong) if you can find one.

Surefire devices usually use internal shims to time them correctly and RockSet to hold them in place. You will want a slot on top and a prong on the bottom, in order for it to work as a compensator. Rockset is like Red Locktite.

The Delta P Socom adapter is considerably long (compared to the SEI) and the Surefire is another 2.5+ inches. You may end up with a rifle that is as long as a Scout.

I have a couple M60 flash suppressors and m14 thread adapters I plan to experiment with soon. Not sure what results will be, but will be interesting for sure. The m60 flash supp is heavy, so keep that in mind. I have no good reason other than why not. If it works and looks good, I may use the odd combo on a build

I went ahead and got the M60 flash hider. I’m on the fence with the look. What do you guys think? I’m gonna try and go shooting Friday to see the difference. Here she is

Looks odd , but so do a lot of Commercial Muzzle devices , may be because I'm so used to seeing M14's with the Std. FS .

Interested in the Range report .

Went shooting but forgot to take pics, I like the m60 flash hider way better than the factory muzzle brake, to me the recoil is reduced. My groups did tighten up. I’m shooting 168gr Federal OTM; with iron sights I was shooting 2.5 moa at 100 yds. I put a scope on her and my groups shrunk to just under 1.5 moa. Here is a picture after I got home. All in all, I’m very impressed with the delta p adapter and m60 hider. Someday I’ll probably switch out the longer hider for the shorter M60e3/e4.

I'm not use to seeing that hider without a bipod swishing around behind it. RNGR1
