can any one tell me about my M1A serial # 002396? Says Sringfiels 7.62 but is barreld for .243 Winchester. Has heavy target stock.

Are there any marking on the barrel at all?

At minimum the receiver was built in 1974 .

there are no markinks on the bbl that I have seen.

I have read somewhere that Springfield offered the M1a in several different calibers at one point. Perhaps your rifle is one of those?
