Dear all, I am a gun collector looking for advice, since there seems to be no possibility to contact COLT manufacturer online.

I got an offer to buy a "Commando Enhanced" version from Colt M16, but there seems to be no data on this model on the Internet, so I want to make sure it's a real COLT, because somebody told me there could be found fake copies of M16 rifles.

Attached a couple of picture.

Thank you in advance for any help!

I couldn't find anything about that model either - there is some information about an "M4 Commando Enhanced" though.

Also, I'm only seeing these pictures and not the actual rifle, but it looks like there is some pitting under the finish.

IMO, looks like a fake.

I'm pretty sure Colt roll-marks their guns. Evey Colt I have seen at least.

That looks laser engraved, and super pitted to boot. Not your typical Colt finish.

How long is the barrel?

Found this link useful. Even though they are talking about an M4 "commando enhanced". Not M16.

so is the a full auto weapon? if so I'm guessing its a reg weapon and you doing all the class 3 paper work that would give you a lot of info there , I would ask over www.sturmgewehr.com

the colt logo looks messed up but so what , with the horse on the left and colt on the right I thought m16 had the horse ontop of the colt, and its doesn't look roll marked like waiting for the worms says but it pitted so could be just 2nd and has a poor finish

Good luck

One other thing...

Every "Enhanced Commando" pic that I have seen so far after doing research came up with an "M4" designation, not "M16" like the one posted.

As noted earlier, what is the barrel length?
Is there a "Government Restricted" mark anywhere on the lower?
Also, what type of stock? Is it like this?:

Given the "rough" appearance of the receiver ( clearly "re-painted" ) .... and the M-16 designation...

I'd bet this is from Central / South America, and from the '80s.... God only knows how many "Special Purpose" M-16's were made and sold in foreign markets.

Can the OP get more photos ?

I would not be so fast to declare it a fake, it is in Columbia and has a LE SN, could be a early 80's police or DEA supplied rifle. Here is some info and a photo from TOS. BTW why would anyone go to a lot of trouble to fake a Colt M16? It's not like they are super valuable on the world market, yeah they usually go for more than an AK but only a few hundred dollars more. A lot of M16A1's from Viet Nam made it to Central and South America and Europe during the 70's and 80's.

Enhanced Series is Colt's term for firearms with the Larry Robbins' four-way fire control selector, as opposed to the earlier Sturtevant selector used on the RO605B, RO606B, and RO610B CAR-15s. There's a RO708 M16A2, RO738 M4 Commando Enhanced, a RO748 M16A2 HBAR Enhanced, a RO778 M4 Enhanced, a R0908 M16A4 Enhanced, a RO938 M4 Commando HBAR, and a RO978 M4 Enhanced. The RO738 M4 Commando Enhanced has an A2-style upper receiver. Here's an image of one that was posted earlier.
