I recently purchased an M14 walnut stock for use on my M1A-NM rifle.
I can't quite figure out who made this stock. I originally thought it to be an HRA but now I don't think so.
It has a nice 1/2" DOD stamp with a very well struck non-serif P in circle.
There are no markings (H?) what so ever on the butt under the butt plate.
I have researched this stock on line but still can't be sure of the mfg.
Any help would be appreciated.

From my files on stock cartouches and reseach on the subject, it appears you have a springfield armory stock. The eagles left wing has a slight dip from the right, and the arrow tips and fletchings are deeper printed than the center of the clutch. The star placement and curvature, also match to springfield. Nice find !

So, it looks like I have a Springfield Armory stock.
Worked out well seeing as how it's on a SA, Inc. rifle. GI1

Most likely a Sykes (subcontracted to SA). Look for an "S" under a hash mark on the latch side of the trapdoor cut out.

That is where I have looked several times from all angles. There are no markings or any kind under the butt plate.

Here is the unstruck butt of the stock.

Look very carefully at the first picture. About 1" to the left of the DOD "box" are two lines of VERY small letters, that at least to my old eyes appear to be "HRA" over "HID", rather like in the style of ww2 Garand stocks, but much smaller and unboxed. If this is original to the stock, it would be a pretty convincing argument for H&R provenance.

P.S. nice looking stock....keep me in mind if you ever want to move it along!
