How can you tell if your receiver is cast or forged? Mine is dated 1/1994.

What brand of receiver ?
Others will chime in who know more than I but unless you have a Polytech, Norinco, LRB, Smith Enterprises or possibly Enterptrise Arms receiver, it should be cast.
Armscorp, Springfield, Fulton, James River all made cast receivers.

There are a lot of knowledgeable people on this site, but I think it may require more than the year of manufacture in order to decipher if cast or forge.

OK. Good to know. Doesn't matter to me. Casting is good. All of Thompson's Encores are cast and they're excellent firearms.

Good attitude. My first is a Springfield and it is faultless.

Actually, James River has 'made' both cast and forged. I put made in quotes because they purchase their receivers from someone else. In my case they purchased my forged receiver from 7.62mm. They are also using LRB if I recall correctly.
But the posters attitude is good because forged or cast I know I'll never wear one out in my life time. With the resources available to me to go shoot, I'd go broke trying to wear either one out, but I might die happy :)
