I'll see if this thread is still open now.

I just wanted to share a clean-up hint- Epoxy dissolves in vinegar. Clean hands and tools before it kicks off. So non-toxic that your body actually makes it. Lots cheaper than acetone. But it is an acid, that may turn steel black- or rusty. Probably better not to use it around gun parts.

And another thanks for this thread. I bedded my gun in about 1990, using a circa '70 NM manual. Much has changed. Still practicing on that same stock, before I start on the Boyd's laminated that's been in the box for five years. Nuthin to lose but some JB weld.

Im thinking I have a handle on my Fed Ord problem child. http://m14forum.com/m14/102300-fereral-ordnace-geometry-problem.html

In my recent fiddling about, it seems that r&r'ing the barrel has changed things, it seats differently/better, and the draw pressures have changed, along with the geometry of receiver to barrel. So I scraped the old bedding out of the liner, and the lugs fit there pretty darn well. I'll see with a range trip next day or so.

But the bedding question: I sure like the idea if fitting the liner to the recoil lugs. Basically, it would be a 'steel bedding' job? So, looks like I would fit the liner to the lugs, clamp the two together, and ummm... Sure, bed the trigger group later... umm drill oversize holes in the side for liner screws, bed liner and receiver as a unit.... use washers under temporary liner screws, drill and bed the real screws later? Or maybe bed the liner while attached to receiver, shim the receiver up, later remove the shims and bed the receiver separately?

I've got time and skills, not much money. And a Boyd's nutmeg laminated semi-inlet stock... which I can hog out to suit the stock liner...

So people keep asking me bedding advice and when I am going to have the images fixed. I don't know when I will. Sorry, work has been too hectic and I don't know when I can get around to fixing this post or transferring everything to a PDF format to look like the rest of my instructions.

I do however remember that some bright individual (I think it was M1Aalltheway) copied the entire thread with images and saved it as a PDF file. He e-mailed it to me. The images are not as big and detailed as I'd like, but they are useful. If anyone wants a copy of this, send me an e-mail at [email protected] and I'll gladly send you a copy.

Tony.
