Have you guys seen the Optima battery commercial where they shoot the car battery? After they shoot the battery, they put it in a Ford pick-up and start it. Sounds dumb, huh? At least they used a nice rifle.

That sure is an odd commercial. The guy who came up with the idea probably just wanted a reason to bring his M1 out to play.

Hah! Back in 1979 I was target shooting on an old radio that was no longer working. As I was picking up the pieces I found the duracel battery with a .22 hole in the center of it. I plugged it into a different device and it worked!!!! I eagerly packaged it up and sent it to Duracell pitching the idea of doing a commercial around the idea. I can only imagine the laugh they had. Some time later I received a respectful letter explaining that it did not fit their current marketing plan, but they thanked me for the inspiration and product testimony. As a thank you they sent me a new radio and a pack of batteries.

I guess I was just ahead of my time.

After your good fortune with Duracell I woulda Shot up my Pickup, My Washing Machine, The TV and the Lawn Mower & sent them to GM, Maytag, Zenith & John Deere!
