My ejector spring is weak in my M1 so I ordered a new one. Got a supprise. My spring is about 1/2 the length of a new one and is quite a bit smaller in diameter. My bolt reads D28287-19SA A-9. Any one got an idea where I can get a spring to fit this bolt. If it has the same drawing no# as others why is the spring different. I don't want to change bolts because this thing is a tack driver. :? I realize all new springs are longer than old ones because they take a set after a while but this one is really diffferent.

Well, it sonds like ya got the wrong spring if it's really different than the original.

I have 1 if you still need it. Just send me a PM.
Let me know the length and diameter of the original so I know if ya had the right spring to begin with.

Warbird, it's my understanding that the M14 and M1 ejector spring is the same , mine isn't. The hole in my M1 bolt is no where near as deep as the one in my M14. Tomorrow I will strip an M14 bolt and my M1 and let you know exactly how much difference there is. I first thought something must be broke off in the bottom of the hole but it isn't. The hole in the bottom of the bolt that is drilled into the ejector spring passage is a lot closer to the front of the M1 bolt also. The spring I orderd will fit My M14 but will not fit my M1. The spring in my M1 will fall out of sight in My M14, something is very different. I thought I might have one of the very first bolts that could been improved upon later.

Milo Maker my serial 2850XXX which would make it a 1942 model I think. Most of the rifles have mixed and matched parts after going through a lot of rebuilds. I think my trigger group is older than the reciever also. Every thing in the rifle is SA.

milo you're not reading the whole drawing number he posted.

D28287-19SA A-9

^^^^^^^^^ indicates 1944 or later production.

A-9 is the heat lot

I don't know when my bolt was made, but why does it have the small, short ejector spring? What year did they change to the large and longer springs like the M14 has? I've also noticed that the M14 ejectors has 2 facets on the end and my M1 has only 1.
