I'm pretty sure that's a KMT replacement safety- Bought back up a thread "Winchester M14 safetys". Bill Ricca says K8 marked safety is KMT 1969 contract.

There are several post on here about it, KMT seems to be the consensus. I won't prentend to know the subcontractor web, but they do seem to be common on Winchesters, that is what mine came on.

I believe that the KMT stands for Killeen Machine and Tool, a subcontractor that made several parts for the M14.

I think some of their production was contract for spares and some was sub-contract for original rifle production
